Geist is an affluent area in northeastern Indianapolis, Indiana (in Lawrence Township) and southeastern Hamilton County in Fishers, Indiana. It is named for Geist Reservoir. It was constructed in 1943 by damming Fall Creek to provide water for Indianapolis. Upon completion, Geist Reservoir was the second largest man made lake in Indiana, providing approximately 7,000,000,000 US gallons of water.
The waterfront amenities offered at Geist have made it a haven for athletes, politicians, socialites, and businessmen. Past and present residents have included Reggie Miller, Paul George, George Hill and Mitch Daniels. Some of whom are more infamous than famous such as Tim Durham and Marcus Schrenker.
WELCOME TO GEIST
While not its own municipality, Geist is its own lake community -- drawing its personality and pace from the beauty and activities of its namesake 1,900 acre lake that rests in the middle and makes boating and fishing two of the favorite leisure activities of Geist residents.
Geist is home to a handful of golf courses, many churches and numerous restaurants. Geist spans 3 school districts, 4 voting precincts and 5 zip codes and it overlaps with the towns of Fishers, Lawrence, Oaklandon, McCordsville and Fortville..
