THE BEE HIVE
Cottage Home Neighborhood has had the fortune of several talented bee keepers. A result of that is the community bee hive, surrounded by an artistic metal cage to ensure safety. When the bees are active, you can find them swarming around the hive, bringing their treasured pollen to the queen to produce delicious honey.

THE COMMUNITY SHELTER
The shelter was funded and built by the neighbors of Cottage Home in 2012. Since then, it has played host to countless events. The shelter may be rented for private events.

COMMUNITY PRAIRIE
Our prairie sits among the shade of the apple trees along Highland Avenue. The combination of wildflowers and grasses create a primitive backdrop to our community space. Your pets will enjoy exploring the prairie too!

COMMUNITY FIRE PIT
The fire pit is so simple but so essential to our Community Space. On a cool autumn night, you will find many neighbors huddled around the pit, sitting on bales of straw, drinking a beverage of choice and sharing stories.

RAISED GARDEN BEDS
Beside the Community Prairie you will find several raised bed gardens. The gardens are rented, planted, tended and harvested each year by people around the community. There are also herb beds sprinkled throughout the garden area and are available for any neighborhood resident to snip off for a recipe throughout the growing season

COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND
The playground is located on the west side of our Community Space and is flanked by large trees which provide shade from the sun and protection from the wind. It's a small but mighty space with a jungle gym, sand pit with toys and swings. Every other year, the neighborhood hosts a Jungle Gym Jam to raise funds so we can maintain and continue to grow the playground space.

MICRO-LIBRARY
This is a special gem in our Community Space, built by neighbors as with all the other Community Space amenities. The library is stocked with books and furniture so you can pop in, grab a good read, sit in a chair and forget about life for a while.

BRICK MANSION
The home standing out among the cluster of small frame cottages at 711 Dorman St. is an architectural exception that was built for Frederick Ruskaup in 1892. This neighborhood gem is privately owned but you can occasionally get a glimpse of the inside during our bi-annual Home & Garden Tour.

Frederick Ruskaup constructed this two-story brick building at 717-19 Dorman St. in 1875. For years, the building was a grocery story and his family lived in an upstairs apartment. In recent years it has sat vacant with an occasional pop up shop occupying the cozy interior.

UNDERPASS MURAL
As you exit Cottage Home Neighborhood on Saint Clair Street, you will notice the colorful art along the underpass of the highway bridge. This gorgeous mural by Whimsical Funk - Artwork by William Denton Ray was a labor of love with the assistance of several community members.
COTTAGE HOME COMMUNITY SPACE
The Community Space is home to Cottage Home Neighborhood gatherings (when weather permits). It contains garden beds, wildflowers, playground, micro library, portable restroom, bee hive, fire pit, shelter and more. All of these ammenities are open to the public. The shelter may be reserved for a private event from time to time.
